The Gas Safe Register, which used to be CORGI until 2009, is the official registration body for anyone who works on gas appliances in the UK and is needed for landlords’ gas safety certificates.
If you are not Gas Safe registered, you can not install or repair any gas appliances including boilers, cookers, and fires, for money.
I have been Gas Safe registered since 2011 and know all about the costs.
What is the Gas Safe Registration Cost?
All prices include VAT, which you can claim back if you are registered for VAT.
The Gas Safe registration cost is £263.40. This is your one-time application fee which includes one registered gas engineer, but there will also be a registration fee to pay.
The online registration fee is £190.20, or £216.60 if you register over the phone.
After 12 months, you will have to pay another registration fee for your Gas Safe registration renewal.
Then again every 12 months for as long as you want to be Gas Safe registered.
Any additional gas engineers you want on your Gas Safe registration will cost you an extra £35.40 per gas engineer, per year.
Gas Engineer
Too Costly?
The price can seem high when you are first starting out as a business. But, It’s one of the costs you can’t avoid.
I actually got a small start-up loan for Housewarm, which my Gas Safe registration fee was paid for with, in addition to some plumber tools that I needed.
If you like, you can sign up to pay by direct debit and spread your cost renewal over the year.
Just make sure you’re not late when you renew your registration. You will have to fork out a hefty £134.40 penalty fee for a late renewal.
Gas Safe Notifications
There are also Gas Safe notification costs to pay every time you install a new gas appliance, typically combi boilers for me.
You must notify the Gas Safe Register every time you install a new gas appliance, and for this, you must pay £3 online, or £4.80 over the phone.
I fit boilers that pay your notification fees for you when you register the boiler warranty online. So, therefore, I don’t really ever pay notification costs these days.
Boilers
I normally fit Ideal boilers and Baxi boilers, and they notify Gas Safe for me, for free!
The registration cost is a lot to fork out in one go. But, once you do a few combi boiler installations and boiler services, you should be able to pay it off.
You should give customers the very best combi boiler prices for your installations when you’re first starting out because that’s what a lot of people look for.
Keep your labour costs to a minimum until you have more experience, skills, and regular phone calls coming in.
Apply for Gas Safe registration if you have the correct qualifications. It’s the best thing I ever did.
