The Gas Safe registration cost explained
The Gas Safe registration cost is £438 including VAT. This includes one registered heating engineer and covers you for the first year.
From boiler servicing to combi boiler installations, you must be Gas Safe registered to carry out work on any gas appliances safely and legally in the UK.
After 12 months you will have to pay another £186 for your Gas Safe registration cost renewal and every 12 months for as long as you want to be Gas Safe registered.
The £186 renewal fee is only if (like me) you renew online. if you want to pay any other way the renewal fee is £210.
The Gas Safe registration cost can seem quite high when you are first starting out as a business but it’s a cost that you must find. I actually got a small start-up loan in which my Gas Safe registration cost was paid for with along with some plumbing tools that I needed.
I have not done it yet but you can sign up to pay by direct debit and spread your Gas Safe registration cost renewal over the year.
There are also Gas Safe notification costs to pay every time you install a new gas appliance, normally combi boilers for me. You must notify the Gas Safe Register every time you install a new gas appliance and for this, you must cough up £2.64.
The new boiler cost should more than cover this but there are a couple of ways to get out of paying these costs.
- Move to Scotland or Northern Ireland (unless you already live there) as notifying Gas Safe Register for new boiler installations is not mandatory in these places yet.
- Fit boilers that pay your notification fees for you when you register the boiler warranty online. This is obviously an easier option and I don’t really ever pay notification costs these days as I normally fit Ideal and Baxi boilers and they notify Gas Safe for me, for free!
The Gas Safe registration cost is a lot to fork out in one lump, but once you get a few boiler installations and boiler services, you should be able to pay it off.
